Hunting the Flutterbys

Wings-wide

Drie and I went to the Detroit Zoo's Butterfly House to test the new Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 Micro lens. One of the first shots I caught was this one. I was a little further from the butterfly than I would have liked, but it was a nice, quick shot.

The Eyes of a Butterfly
The Eyes of a Butterfly
This was an attempt of a close-up on the face of a butterfly. The depth-of-field at that range is extremely shallow and with the low light, f2.8 was the best I could shoot.

This butterfly was kind enough to pose for me.

I was very pleased with this one. The color and clarity on the 105mm Micro are wonderful. I look forward to getting an opportunity to see what it can really do.

Sugar Maple Tapping -or- My First DPChallenge Submission

I finally made my first Challenge submission to DPChallenge! I entered the photo "We're tapping the local tree for your Michigan Maple Syrup" into the Billboard challenge. This is my first submission mostly to test the waters. Its far from my best work, but I'm expecting it to finish a little lower middle of the pack with about a 5-6 (as of this posting I have an average vote of 4.9268 with 164 votes cast). We'll see how well, or poorly it does.

I had also considered submitting the photo titled "Michigan Sugar Maple Tapping" but decided that it was too busy for the contest. Both images were shot on February 27th at the Troy Nature Center (all photos for DPChallenge must be shot during the challenge period).

Cats @ the Apartment

Yippee! The Flickr account finally rolled over so I can post some more photos! These are all tests the night that the Nikkor 105mm Micro lens arrived:

Cheddar
Cheddar
This is just testing/playing with the new 105mm Micro lens on Cheddar. He's not the most cooperative cat when it comes to taking pictures.

Pepper
Pepper
Pepper on the other hand, he'll just sleep there as long as you don't bother him too much.

Pepper & Flowers
Pepper & Flowers
Drie was sorting out some silk flowers when Pepper decided to lay on them. So Drie just kept stacking flowers on Pepper.
