CSX2636 Aproaches

CSX2636 Aproaches

Lawrence of Berkley and I made a run out to Howell Sunday morning to take advantage of the fog. After waiting for nearly an hour, CSX 2636 and CSX 6398 had picked up a maintenance of way train dropped in at the siding near Ann Pere and were finally heading out.

Dwarf at the Grade Crossing

Dwarf at the Grade Crossing

We waited at the grade crossing for some time as the crew made the connections and did their brake test. That gave us the chance for shooting some of the items around the crossing. Of course this dwarf signal was calling to be captured.

Lansing Board of Water & Light's Ottawa Street Power Station

Lawrence of Berkley stopped by downtown Lansing Sunday afternoon to check out the progress on the refurbishment of the Ottawa Power Station as it is converted to the new headquarters for Accident Fund Insurance Company of America. Work was still progressing on a Sunday with crew on the roof and the grounds. I borrowed Larry's 20mm lens having left my 14-24mm back at the car to grab these shots.

Arm Nuts Bolts

Arm Nuts Bolts

While hanging out at a crossing near Ann Pere we had some time to kill. I've always enjoyed the nutz and bolts on the crossing arms. This was another opportunity to grab photos of some.

We hit the Henry Ford Museum this morning in an attempt to find subject matter to capture on an overcast day. The museum provided very little in the way of good material, but it was fun to get back there for the first time in years.

Reaching into the Lake

Reaching into the Lake

While Lawrence of Berkley was shooting high above at the Lake Huron Roadside Park Honoring Horatio S. Earle I spotted this interesting boat house in the lake. We walked down to check it out. We knew nothing about it and still don't, but it does have "Private Property: No Trespassing" signs on it with evidence that it has not been abandoned. It looks as if it isn't all that old though we suspect it might have been a rebuild of an earlier structure.

Dynamometer Total Hours

Dynamometer Total Hours

One of the more interesting artifacts at the Walter P. Chrysler Museum is an old Dynamometer station. The buttons and gauges were just facinating despite missing several of them. I'd love to have seen the stand powered up, lighting the gauges and reading something other than zero.

American Integrity

American Integrity

Lawrence of Berkley and I took a trip up the coast from Marysville through the Blue Water Bridge chasing the American Integrity. When we arrived at Desmond Landing we had a south bound freighter. The two met around the old ferry dock.

The Holly Union Depot

The Holly Union Depot

Built in 1886, this depot served two separate railroads - the Detroit & Milwaukee (now Canadian National) and the Flint & Holly Railroad (now CSX Transportation). It is currently being restored but I was unable to find much about that effort on the web.

30-Cylinder Tank Engine Fuel Filter?

30-Cylinder Tank Engine Fuel Filter?

Not far from my apartment is the Walter P. Chrysler Museum and I'd not had the chance to visit since it has opened. Lawrence of Berkley took a trip over Saturday morning for a look and hopefully some good shots. Sadly the barriers were in most of the potential shots so we ending up with only a few details we could really shoot. One of the subjects which caught my attention was this World War II era 30-Cylinder Tank Engine. Massive, yet still small. I don't imagine that they would ever have looked this good in use. Our best guess is that this (one of two) is a fuel filter.

Looking Out Over Lake Huron

Looking Out Over Lake Huron

Lawrence of Berkley and I stopped by the Lake Huron Roadside Park Honoring Horatio S. Earle on our way north from Port Huron. No reason in particular, but we stopped there to see what we could get of the American Integrity (which we had followed from Marysville to Port Huron, then spotted again on the horizon). The clouds had broken to allow some sun through on what ended up being a very pretty afternoon.

Power Wagon

While there were many interesting vehicles at the Walter P. Chrysler Museum, the only one I could really get anything interesting from was a Dodge Power Wagon. Excellent looking vehicle!

American Integrity Passing Maryville

Lawrence of Berkley and I took a drive up to Marysville to see what was to be seen. Just as we arrived at the fishing access by the DTE plant (our first time there) the American Integrity appeared on the horizon. So we stayed as it passed and chased it all the way to the Blue Water Bridge.
