CSX 442 & CSX 4521
CSX 442 (AC44CW) and CSX 4521 (SD70MAC) accelerate toward the diamond in Deshler, Ohio.
Larry and the Big Gun
Lawrence of Berkley prepares to grab another frame with the D700 and 300mm f/2.8.
CSX 7850
CSX 7850 (CW40-8) passes the depot in Deshler, Ohio.
Shooters' Photo
Stuart,
DNO_Dennis,
Lawrence of Berkley,
joseph645, and I hit the
Historical Construction Equipment Association's 2009 show for some photo fun. After grabbing a bite to eat we posed for a quick group photo in front of their office and some tractors on display there.
Another Wet Sunrise at the 40 Mile Point Lighthouse
Following a poor sunset, I attempted to make sunrise at the
40 Mile Point Lighthouse after requesting permission to enter the park before it opened at 8:00AM. The weather wasn't much better than Friday night but I got more usable stuff since the light was hitting the right side. Unfortunately there was still no color. I tried (and succeeded) to get some shots. The wind was actually a bigger problem than the sky.
Break!
I think my favorite performance at the
2009 Selfridge Air Show was the four
T-6 Texans.
Turning Upside-down
The first performance I watched once I got to the viewing area at the
2009 Selfridge Air Show was
Gene Soucy and his
Showcat.
Start 'em Young
I didn't get a chance to tour the
Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules at the
2009 Selfridge Air Show, but there was a long line to walk through. The fisheye lens brought out the huge nose as a young guest looks out the Pilot's window. Maybe I'll have that chance next time.
Four T-6 Texans
I think my favorite performance at the
2009 Selfridge Air Show was the four
T-6 Texans. Thankfully they made a couple passes without the smoke.

Leviathan on the Turntable
The
Leviathan 4-4-0 No. 63 made it's first public appearance at the
Train Festival 2009 in
Owosso, Michigan. This is the newest steam locomotive having been just completed earlier this month. Though it was inspired by the locomotives of the
Golden Spike Ceremony, this new 4-4-0 is powered by oil rather than wood or coal. This is the best view I could get of the profile of the #63.
Sloan's Liniment
We finally got to the tour the inside of the
40 Mile Point Lighthouse including the tower. While we really enjoyed the exhibits and checking out the lens for the light, we really didn't find all the much to shoot outside the kitchen. The only thing in the kitchen though that really worked was this, a series of bottles on the shelf.
Skytrain Skyward
The
Yankee Air Museum flew in a few planes for the
2009 Selfridge Air Show. They also flew their
B-25 Mitchell and
C-47 Skytrain for the spectators. The Skytrain was cool to see fly, but it's still basically a DC-2.
Little River 110 Waiting
Every hour at the
Train Festival 2009 the
Little River 110 pulls a short passenger train around
Owosso, Michigan. While at the platform we had the chance to try grabbing some photos. Fortunately we had a little rain which chased many of the guests giving us a clear shot of the locomotive.

Something Fishy About One Plane
The Delta N610DL
Boeing 757 is the carrier's
Breast Cancer Awareness plane and has been making appearances at air shows. I spotted at the
2009 Selfridge Air Show and their Cooper Mini (with wings, rudder, and jets added on) and grabbed a shot with the full-frame fisheye.
Dive!
I think my favorite performance at the
2009 Selfridge Air Show was the four
T-6 Texans. Following the performance from the group, the Leader stayed out to show-off a little while the rest of the team landed and taxied back.
Prepping to Cook
Wandering around after the trip to Nankin-Mills we hit the
Westland Historical Park in search of more cool images. The first building we toured had this fantastic old cook book which we all needed to take a turn at capturing.
Let's Hope It is Never Used
We hit the
Friday: Eat Like a Cacher Geocaching event at
Hoeft State Park where I found this rescue rowboat resting up-side-down. This is one of those items you just hope is never needed.
MIG-17 Fresco #309
The flight performances I enjoyed the most at the
2009 Selfridge Air Show were the vintage aircraft. This
Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17 Fresco put on quite the show, but even with the 70-300 on the D300 was often too far from the camera to get a good shot.
SP4449 Northbound in Living Color
Adalay,
Lawrence of Berkley, and
joseph645, and
DNO_Dennis headed up to Durand, Michigan Sunday afternoon to witness the arrival of the
Southern Pacific 4449. By the time the train finally turned and headed for Owosso the sun had set so I cranked up the ISO and got what I could.
T-6 Texans
I think my favorite performance at the
2009 Selfridge Air Show was the four
T-6 Texans. I could have done without all the smoke (if nothing else it made for poor shots as it dissipated) but really enjoyed the show.
40 Mile Point Lighthouse Before the Storm
I hit the
40 Mile Point Lighthouse just before the start of the golden hour only to have the clouds and rain roll in from the storm approaching. I tossed the rain gear on the D700 and camera bag and got what I could. The clouds are really terrible, but I think I got the trick of the light (3 seconds on, 3 seconds off). Perhaps I'll be able to get good weather at somepoint, but neither trip to the site has had a good sky.
Ketchup on the Table
While in Durand, Michigan to witness the
Southern Pacific 4449 passing through, we stopped for dinner at a local place called "
Nick's Hometown Grill." Of course we brought our cameras to the table, wisely not snapping while anyone was eating. The shot of
DNO_Dennis across the ketchup bottle.
joseph645 was even kind enough to give the bottle a little squeeze to create a nice little blob oozing from the top.
