Cracked Rear Window

Cracked Rear Window
Cracked Rear Window
Before turning in the 2003 Element EX for my new 2006 Element EX-P I hit the Pontiac Transit Center to get in some shooting. Amtrak had a little forklift sitting there with a cracked rear window. It caught the light nicely. Perhaps I should have spent some more time working it though.

Closed Comfort Station

Closed Comfort Station
Closed Comfort Station
While on a little photo expedition this last weekend, Larry and I happened past a "Closed Comfort Station" off Hines Drive. The cool old building with a slate roof was long ago boarded up and left to slowly disintegrate. We spent about half an hour working the cool old building.

Daisy Square "$1,000,000" Wall

Daisy Square "$1,000,000" Wall
Daisy Square "$1,000,000" Wall
This is the result of our photo excursion Saturday afternoon. The residents of Daisy Square refer to this original wall as the "$1,000,000" Wall. I don't know what the history is, nor what the plan is for this wall, but its cool and unusual. This wall obivously supported some design elements in the $245,000 to $345,000 loft condominiums (which look to be very exciting for new loft construction). Hopefully this wall will be incorporated into a new building in the future. Till then its just a very cool sight.

My New 2006 Element EX-P 4WD

My New 2006 Element EX-P 4WD
I had to toss this one together, but in the fading light I wanted to grab a shot of the new car. I'll try shooting it again with more time, but this is from the day I took delivery of the new one.

Fisheyes

Saline Trestle: Shooting the Trestle
Saline Trestle: Shooting the Trestle
Some of those watching either my photoblog or Flickr account might recall that I have a 10.5mm DX Fulll-Frame Fisheye. Some might even recall that I still desire that distorted look you get out of the wider and/or cheaper fisheye lenses. We ended up having that conversation again over dinner last night, and I found myself defending the 10.5mm as a useful tool when documenting. I'm honored to have this useful lens in my bag though I rarely pull it out. Making this lens more appealing though will be the acquisition of the new Nikon Capture NX which should completely remove the distortion from the image. Though not a great tool for the artistic impression, what a fabulous tool for documenting!

Wait for the Train

Wait for the Train
Wait for the Train
This photo was a product of our little photo trip to Fostoria, Ohio a few weeks back. This was one of those great situations for using a zoom lens over primes. Nevertheless, we're still anxious for some good, fast primes to come from Nikon. Until then, we're just waiting for that train to arrive.

"But They Taste Good."

"But They Taste Good."
"But They Taste Good."
Here's another image from last Saturday's trip to the Detroit Zoo. We spent some time working the Snow Monkies just because they are cute animals doing hysterical things. Unfortunately we didn't have the lighting and they we're too interested in us to do anything interesting.

Steel on the River

Steel on the River
Steel on the River
This image is close to a month old now, but one of the best I had from that trip to Port Huron. I'm anxious to get out there and try some more shots with the new 105mm Micro VR, but who knows when I'll have the time.

Just a Little Bit Further

Just a Little Bit Further
Just a Little Bit Further
This was my favorite of the giraffe photos I shot this weekend. I normally don't spend any time on the giraffes at the Detroit Zoo, so we spent some time working their exhibit.

Photo Excursion

Larry the Shooter
Larry the Shooter
A couple of my buddies and I hit the Detroit Zoo Saturday morning for a quick photography expedition. We had a blast, but by noon the lighting was terrible (along with the heat) so we beat a retreat to grab lunch. This is the only image from this Saturday's excursion that I've processed so far, but I hope to get to them soon.

Run Away!

Run Away!
Run Away!
This is a shot from the Detroit Zoo a few weeks ago, but I'm having one of those days at work when you just want to run from the office as quickly as possible.

Sunday in Fostoria

Eastbound at Sunset
Eastbound at Sunset
A couple of friends and I went out to Fostoria, Ohio last Sunday to shot some trains. Its the first time in years that I made it down there, and the first time in about two years that I've really gone out to shoot trains again. We had a good time, but its too bad we had work the Monday. To see all of the images check out my Flickr photostream and look for the images from June 11.

Barbs

Barbs
Barbs
We were at the Desmond Landing checking out the progress at Vantage Point. I'm not sure I like the direction they're going with it (especially the over powering music), but its a good place to hang out, grab some fries, and watch the ships. The approach to the old Pere Marquette bridge has been converted to a nice deck to sit and enjoy the traffic at the mouth of the Black River. To the west though is an old fence with barbed wire, and from the right angle, all you see behind it is the water below.
