Speedy Thursday?
Pre-Dream Cruise Ford GT
I am sitting here this morning wasting some time before I head into the office. The last couple of days have allowed me to get caught up a little bit on the backlog of photos still sitting on my Camera Write-off Drive. Alas I still have hundred of frames to go through (many of them bracket sweeps), but at least I'm getting closer. Today we should wrap-up the installation of the new OC3 at the office, replacing the T1 that's been in service for at least 5 years. So when I came across this image of a Ford GT moving toward the fading sunlight before the Woodward Avenue Dream Cruise it seemed an appropriate post for today.
Fungus Macro
Lake Fungus
I spotted this nice fugus growing on a tree as I was pulling onto the side street coming home from work. We went right out to shoot the thing in the still bright daylight. A pool had form in one of the shelves from the rain a few days early creating a little lake.
Vantage Point
Vantage Point
At the mouth of the Black River in Port Huron sits the new Vatage Point park. I didn't catch this shot in time for the building to be open, but they do love their lights over there.
Lightship Huron
Lightship Huron
The Lightship Huron sits on the edge of the river as a reminder of days gone by. She now lights the greenway at night and works days as an exhibit.

A Lift Bridge
Skyway Bridge
Between Lock 3 in St. Catharines and Locks 4-5 in Thorold sits the Skyway Bridge. This lift bridge was a great viewing platform to watch Lock 4 and the Canadian National draw bridges immediately in front.
Tight Fit
Ease it In
Here's another shot of the Rt. Hon. Paul J. Martin at Lock 3. The ship is built to the maximum size that locks will handle, so its a nice, tight fit.
Cable Roll
Giant Roll of Cable
We're getting Comcast in for our internet access at the office. Part of this process includes running the fiber into the building. To do so, Comcast has to run something in the range of a half-mile work of fiber from our office. So this afternoon we have a big roll of cable parked out back. This certainly is not the largest roll of cable I've seen, but its the largest I've seen at the office.
Lock 3
Welland Canal
This was probably the best of the shots from the Welland Canal visit.
Making Progress
Rt. Hon. Paul J. Martin Looking Fishy
As of a little after midnight I finally have some of the 14 photos from the Welland Canal visit (during the Niagara Falls weekend) posted! I'll get the others up in the morning.
To me, the Welland Canal was the highlight of our Niagara Trip. We had some ships to shoot in a new and interesting environment. This was taken at the St. Catharine's Museum at Lock 3, but the lock immediately south are the ones I found most interesting. I'll start getting photos of those up in the morning.
The Wheel Not Turning
Mechanical
This is back from the oil well in Birch Run. This thing just was not moving at all. Unfortunately light was fading, but we did get some good shots with those nice soft shadows.
Desaturated
Nature Trail
Something about this image was screaming to be desaturated. This was done completely in Adobe Camera Raw and there was no selective desaturation. The greens in this one were so completely saturated that everything else seems to have lost all its saturation.
Industrial Images
Fraser Overpass Support
A geocache in the area (GCQW9P) brought us to this pedestrian overpass. I had been a little worried after the trip to Niagara Falls that I wasn't being inspired after being spoiled by my D2X, but I saw the lighting on this bridge and just drawn to some of the details. I think I'll need to add the 105mm Micro to the D200 standard kit after this (since the 24-85mm just isn't a macro lens).
Found Jems
"Fraser Star Lanes"
We found this sign while just driving around. Unfortunately we didn't catch this one at night, but I love finding these old signs.
Getting There...
Spanish Aero Car Mid-run
...slowly. I've made it through all but one set of images from the weekend in Niagara Falls. I'm done with all the typical stuff, the stuff that was uninspiring, and now I'm left with the photos from the nature trail. Look for those soon.
More from Niagara Falls
View of Horseshoe Falls
I had a little time to process some more of the images from our weekend in Niagara Falls. None of the photos are impressive, but I just couldn't find and inspiration in the overly tourist environment.
A Bit of History
Grounded Scow
One of the coolest things we found in Niagara Falls was this scow which has been grounded above the Horseshoe Falls for nearly a century. The story is that in 1918 this scow broke loose from a dredging operation about a half mile upstream. It broke loose from the tug with two men aboard. Fortunately they were grounded here and saved the fate of plunging over the falls.
A Weekend in Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls, Ontario
We spent the weekend in Niagara Falls, Ontario. We enjoyed ourselves, but were disappointed to find that the tourist portion of the city has become little more than a midway. Our best time was spent upstream from the noise or downstream hiking through the parks.
I don't have all the photos processed yet, but I didn't find much worth of shooting around the falls. Look for the few good images I dot to start popping-up on Flickr.
Working the Oil Well
Working the Oil Well
I'm still working on finding time to process the images from a a couple weeks ago, so another image of the oil well in Birch Run is in order. The three of us spent a few minutes in the fading light shooting the oil well before heading home.
Gooey Heat
Get A Handle
Its been way too hot the last few days. With any luck the heat wave will break Thursday with the thunderstorms, but till then I'll be hanging out indoors staying cool and attempting to find the time to get through the rest of the photos from a couple weeks ago. Till I do, here's another image from Birch Run for your enjoyment.
