Seeds in the Sky

Seeds in the Sky

Following a passing freight train, we stopped for a few minutes to play with the cameras and some natural subjects against the bright winter sky.

CSX4816 Approaches C Cabin

CSX4816 Approaches C Cabin

While exploring Carey Ohio, we spotted this tower (which doesn't look very tower-like) called "C Cabin." As we pulled up to the location of the former diamond, we hear the horn in the distance from CSX4816. We scrambled to park and set-up for some shots of the freight blowing past C Cabin. Aside from the lighting, we were not disappointed.

Ease It By

Ease It By

While checking out the site of the future Fostoria Rail Park this Norfolk Southern freight crept very slowly around the curve. This GE C40-9W, numbered 9978, was dragging a short train of autoracks into yard just beyond. It gave us a good opportunity to grab some shots, but the lighting and sloppy ground didn't cooperate.

NS3323

NS3323

This capible but older road unit appears to have been reduced to yard switching jobs. The SD40-2 was switching some of the local yards as we wandered around town.

Pork Packing Door

Pork Packing Door

While looking around the side of the soon to be demolished Pork Packing plant in Fostoria, this poor decaying door stood out begging to be captured in pixels.

DNO_Dennis and Lawrence of Berkley attempt to capture what remains of the former Pork Packing building on the site of the future Fostoria Rail Park. Lawrence of Berkley grabbed this image, and DNO_Dennis grabbed this image from here. DNO_Dennis also grabbed another angle though, shooting into the sun.

Waiting for the Train

Waiting for the Train

While waiting for a train to pass on the CSX line in front of Fostoria Ohio's depot, I took notice of this light on the gate which gaurds South Main Street. I'm not sure what it is that draws me to this details, but in this case I would guess that the deep saturation was the cause.

Sliding Past the Depot

Sliding Past the Depot

This freight train, lead by BNSF's SD70ACe number 9388, blew by the depot in Fostoria Ohio during a rare moment of sun during our Saturday photo expedition. Unfortunately the station's platform was iced over making walking more challenging thanI would have liked. Lawrence of Berkley grabbed another photo of DNO_Dennis and I as we got into position in expectation of this train's approach. Alas the snow piled up in the corners kept me from getting the shot I had envisioned.

Shooting at the Crossing

Shooting at the Crossing

DNO_Dennis and Lawrence of Berkley shoot a passing Norfolk Southern Roadrailer train lead by C40-9W number 9553, as it crosses South Main Street in Fostoria Ohio. This was our first train of the day as we hit the small town for a little photo expedition (my first for 2009). The warm day provided little sun, but a great chance to get out and shoot.

Norfolk Southern 3323 Switching in Fostoria

Norfolk Southern's SD40-2 number 3323 had been switching around Fostoria while we were visiting this Saturday. When we grabbed this shots we had been checking out the future location of the Fostoria Rail Park as the crew brought the locomotive back onto the NS main heading West.

12 of 12 for February 2009 Tomorrow!

Just a reminder that tomorrow is February 12th, time for another "12 of 12." I was thrilled at the number of new people who participated last month and loved checking out their days (and was quite jealous of those with nice weather and scenery). Here are some of the folks I follow (mostly on Twitter, and most are Geocachers) who submitted "12 of 12"s last month:
One of the more challenging aspects for me has been to pick a theme each month. Last month I wimped out and did the "Normal Monday" theme -- everything taken with the 50mm f/1.8 lens, and everything had to be a normal activity (though not necessarily normal for either a Monday or daily). I'm not sure what tomorrow's theme will be, but as long as I can participate it should be fun.

Photography IS a Crime

This is one of those completely absurd situations where Colbert has done an awesome job showing us just how wrong were we. Photography IS a crime. All of us should be locked up!
